From the pandemic, elections, and historic winter storms, to say that a lot has changed since last year’s annual newsletter feels like a bit of an understatement. Work to protect and conserve Cypress Creek however didn’t stall for these events.

We're glad to hear from some of you that you enjoyed the presentations and panels. It is hard to believe that we are already in the back half of what has most certainly been an interesting year! We hope that you have been well and staying healthy. Work officially began on Phase IV of the Cypress Creek Project back in March, and we have been working hard to keep Cypress Creek clean, clear, and flowing remotely from our respective homes.

We hope everyone has been staying safe and dry during these Spring rains! These recent rain events have shown us the importance of smart, environmentally conscious development as we are seeing a heavy increase in runoff throughout the Hill Country. Integration of best management practices and low impact development is crucial for limiting impervious cover and increasing infiltration.

We are pleased to share with you the final report for Phase III implementation of the Cypress Creek Watershed Protection Plan. When you take the time to read it, you will see that we have accomplished quite a bit in the past three years! From workshops, ordinances, meetings, and best management practices (BMPs).

Happy (belated) New Year from the Cypress Creek Project team! We hope that you all had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday season. The Cypress Creek Project team has been busy wrapping up the TCEQ contract and prepping to kick-off the next phase of the project in March.

Happy fall! We’re all enjoying the cooler temperatures here and hope that you are too. As we enter the rainy season, conserving and protecting our water resources is still as important as ever. Fortunately, the coming rains give us the opportunity to see our best management practices (BMPs) do the work they were built for! Three vegetated filter strips were constructed at the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association headquarters, the tenth and final BMP to be constructed in the watershed as part of the current project.

We hope that everyone has been staying cool as we enter the time of the year where the triple digit temperature days seem to be unending, and rain is sparse. Being conscious of your water usage is more important than ever during these next few months, even the seemingly small changes can make a huge difference. The end of this newsletter includes simple conservation tips you can implement right at home.

The new year brings new goals for the Cypress Creek Project, including enhancing water quality ordinances, development of an inter-local agreements among project partners to ensure the longevity of the goals within the Cypress Creek Watershed Protection Plan, and more Best Management Practices (BMPs) throughout the watershed.
